John Bowes or was it John Bowe?
John was born in Ireland in 1839 and settled in Tasmania , Australia. It is thought that he travelled to Australia on the ship Prompt and most probably arrived about 1860.

It is thought that John originally came from a village called Grogan in County Laois as his farm in Franklin in Tasmania was called Grogan Farm. There has been Bowe families living in Grogan, Ireland, for many, many years.

John married Annie Malone on 10 May 1865 in Franklin and they had 12 children
